1. General rules for applying for Indian to Vietnam visa at the embassy

  • Indian citizens who want to enter Vietnam for any purpose must have a valid visa before traveling. Visas issued by the Vietnamese Embassy are valid for all borders, including those in Vietnam (by land, air, or sea).
  • The processing time and visa fees vary depending on factors such as passport type, length of stay, number of entries, type of visa, and the possibility of pre-authorization, and may change over time. You should contact the Embassy’s Visa Department before submitting your visa application. Visa fees are non-refundable.
  • Persons holding a Certificate of Refugee Status (issued to persons in India who have a protected status, including Convention refugees and persons in need of protection) cannot apply for a visa to Vietnam.
  • To avoid flight delays or cancellations, you should apply for a visa and obtain it before purchasing your airfare.

The application for a Vietnamese visa for Indian nationals at the Embassy includes the following documents:

  • 01 Application form (provided in the template) with an attached photo.

Important notes:

(1) Choose ENGLISH as the language (top right corner);

(2) The place of submission and receipt of the visa must be the VIETNAM EMBASSY IN INDIA;

(3) Fields marked with (*) are mandatory;

(4) In case you cannot fill out the online visa application form, you can download the visa application form here (doc file):

  • Original passport and 1 copy (the passport must be valid for at least 06 months from the date of entry to Vietnam and must have at least 01 blank pages);
  • 02 passport-sized color photos (4x6cm);
  • An approval letter with a fax number (a copy will be accepted) issued by the Immigration Department (Ministry of Public Security).

Note:

  • Foreigners need to: (i) contact and request the agency, organization, or individual who invites or sponsors them in Vietnam to complete the procedures for obtaining an approval letter issued by the Immigration Department (Ministry of Public Security). Once you have the above-mentioned approval letter, you can proceed to submit your visa application at the Consulate General.
  • The validity of the passport must be at least 01 month longer than the validity of the visa applied for. However, many airlines require a passport validity of at least 06 months to be eligible.

3. Visa classification for Indian to Vietnam visa applicants applying for a Vietnam visa

Visa types are classified based on:

  • Form:

Regular visa (Visa Sticker): is a visa with one label or sticker affixed to a page of the passport, which specifies the duration allowed in a particular country.

Loose-leaf visa: a visa that is separated from the passport.

  • Validity: 

Single-entry visa: this is a visa that allows entry and exit from Vietnam only once.

Multiple-entry visa: a visa that allows entry and exit from Vietnam multiple times.

  • According to the purpose of travel:
    • NG1 – Issued to members of delegations invited by the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President, the Chairman of the National Assembly, or the Prime Minister.
    • NG2 – Issued to members of delegations invited by the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vice President, the Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, the Vice Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, the Chief Procurator of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, and the State Auditor General.

Members of delegations invited at the same level as ministers or equivalent, provincial Party secretaries, municipal Party secretaries, chairpersons of provincial People’s Councils, chairpersons of provincial People’s Committees, or centrally-run cities.

  • NG3 – Issued to members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, international organizations under the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations and their spouses, children under 18 years of age, and domestic helpers who accompany them during their mission.
  • NG4 – Issued to persons working with diplomatic missions, consular offices, international organizations under the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations, and their spouses, children under 18 years of age accompanying them; persons visiting members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, international organizations under the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations.
  • LV1 – Issued to persons working with committees, agencies, units under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam; National Assembly, Government, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Supreme People’s Court, Supreme People’s Procuracy, State Audit Office, Ministries, Governmental agencies, non-ministerial governmental agencies, agencies under the Government; Provincial Party Committees, City Party Committees, People’s Councils, Provincial People’s Committees, and centrally-run cities.
  • LV2 – Issued to persons working with political-social organizations, social organizations, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  • LS – Issued to foreign lawyers practicing in Vietnam.
  • DT1 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a contributed capital value of VND 100 billion or more or investing in industries and locations with investment incentives as decided by the Government.
  • DT2 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a contributed capital value ranging from VND 50 billion to less than VND 100 billion or investing in encouraged investment development industries and sectors as decided by the Government.
  • DT3 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a contributed capital value ranging from VND 3 billion to less than VND 50 billion.
  • DT4 – Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a contributed capital value of less than VND 3 billion.
  • DN1 – Issued to foreign individuals working for companies and other organizations with legal status as prescribed by Vietnamese law.
  • DN2 – Issued to foreign individuals for the purpose of offering services, establishing commercial presence, and carrying out other activities as stipulated in international agreements of which Vietnam is a member.
  • NN1 – Issued to the person who is the head of the representative office, a project of an international organization, or a non-governmental organization of foreign countries in Vietnam.
  • NN2 – Issued to the person who is the head of the representative office, branch of foreign traders, and representative office of economic, cultural, and specialized organizations of foreign countries in Vietnam.
  • NN3 – Issued to the person who works for non-governmental organizations, a representative office, a branch of foreign traders, and the representative office of economic, cultural, and specialized organizations of foreign countries in Vietnam.
  • DH – Issued to the person for internship or study purposes.
  • HN – Issued to the person for conference or seminar attendance.
  • PV1 – Issued to permanent journalists and press agencies in Vietnam.
  • PV2 – Issued to journalists and press agencies for short-term activities in Vietnam.
  • LĐ1 – Issued to foreign workers in Vietnam who have confirmed that they are not required to obtain a work permit, except in cases where international treaties to which Vietnam is a member state have different provisions.
  • LĐ2 – Issued to foreign workers in Vietnam who must obtain a work permit.
  • DL – Issued to people entering Vietnam for tourism purposes.
  • TT – Issued to foreign spouses, children under 18 years of age of foreigners who are granted visas marked LV1, LV2, LS, DT1, DT2, DT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LD1, LD2 or to foreigners who are fathers, mothers, spouses, children of Vietnamese citizens.
  • VR – Issued to people entering Vietnam to visit relatives or other purposes.
  • SQ – Issued to individuals who have a working relationship with the authorized agency for issuing Vietnamese visas abroad and their spouses, children, or those who have a written request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the host country or have a letter of guarantee from the diplomatic mission or consular agency of the countries located in the host country and have a need to enter Vietnam for market research, tourism, visiting relatives, or medical treatment.
  • EV – E-visa.

4. The validity period of a Vietnam visa for Indian to Vietnam visa at the embassy is as follows:

  • SQ visa is valid for up to 30 days.
  • HN, DL visas are valid for up to 3 months.
  • VR visa is valid for up to 6 months.
  • NG1, NG2, NG3, NG4, LV1, LV2, DN, NN1, NN2, NN3, DH, PV1, PV2, and TT visas are valid for up to 12 months.
  • LĐ visa is valid for up to 2 years.
  • ĐT visa is valid for up to 5 years.
  • Visa validity can be extended.
  • The validity of the visa will be at least 30 days shorter than the validity of the passport or international travel documents.

5. The processing time for Indian to Vietnam visa citizens at the Embassy:

  • NG1 and NG2 visas are issued within 3 working days from the date the Vietnamese representative agency abroad receives a valid and full visa application and approves the visa granted by the Consular Department or the Ho Chi Minh City Department of External Relations.
  • Other types of visas are issued within 5 working days from the date the Vietnamese representative agency abroad receives a valid and full visa application and approves the visa granted by the Immigration Department, the Consular Department or the Ho Chi Minh City Department of External Relations.

6. Eligible cases for applying for a loose-leaf visa in Indian to Vietnam visa :

  • People with valid passports with blank pages for visa stickers.
  • People with passports issued by countries that have not established diplomatic/consular relations with Vietnam.
  • People with valid international travel documents.
  • People traveling for diplomatic, defense, or security purposes.

7. Other forms of applying for Indian to Vietnam visa

Apart from applying for a Vietnam visa at the Embassy, you can choose to apply for an E-visa or visa on arrival.

7.1.  Applying for an Indian to Vietnam visa by E-visa

Directly register for an electronic visa (E-visa) on the website managed by the Immigration Department, Ministry of Public Security at https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn.

Procedure:

  • If you do the E-visa application yourself

Step 1: You need to access: https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/ to fill in the form, submit the form and pay the fee.

Step 2: Use the electronic application ID to check and receive results on the website you submitted the form.

  • If you apply through an inviting organization, individual or guaranteeing organization in Vietnam

Step 1: You need to contact the inviting organization, individual or guaranteeing organization in Vietnam.

Step 2: The inviting organization, the individual or guaranteeing organization uses an electronic account to access https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/ to request a visa for you and pay the visa fee.

Step 3: After receiving the result of the application, the inviting organization, individual or guaranteeing organization will inform you of the result.

Step 4: You use the result as a valid visa for entry into Vietnam.

7.2. Applying for an Indian to Vietnam visa at the airport

To choose this option and obtain a visa stamp at the airport, you need to follow these steps:

  • Step 1: You need to contact the inviting organization, agency, or individual in Vietnam and provide them with all the necessary information such as a scanned copy of your passport, expected duration of stay, number of entries, and your request for visa issuance at the airport.
  • Step 2: The inviting organization, agency, or individual in Vietnam will complete the application and send it to the Vietnam Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security for approval on behalf of the foreigner.
  • Step 3: The Vietnam Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security will inform the inviting organization, agency, or individual in Vietnam of the approval result and notify the airport authority to issue a visa for the guest.
  • Step 4: You can use the approval result to submit your application (application form, passport or travel document, visa fee) at the airport in Vietnam to receive the visa.
